OUR STAFF
A Cathedral is
the home parish of the Diocesan Bishop.
The Right Reverend James J. (Bud) Shand is the Rector of Trinity Cathedral, as well as Tenth Bishop of the Diocese of Easton. Prior to his ordination to the episcopate in 2003, Bishop Shand served as a priest in the diocese for twenty-seven years. As Rector of Christ Church Parish Kent Island which he served until his election to bishop, he established a vibrant youth ministry program and led the congregation through a two-stage facility expansion.
Bishop Shand has spent his entire adult life serving the church and is particularly passionate about youth and prison ministry. He is also very pleased and proud of the work of dozens of folks from around the diocese who have traveled to Mississippi to help with re-building following Hurricane Katrina.
Most Sunday mornings he visits churches around the diocese to create unity of purpose and mission. On Christmas, Holy Week, Easter, and All Saints' Day he worships at Trinity Cathedral.
The Very Reverend Gregory L. Powell is the Dean of Trinity Cathedral.
Greg served as Rector of St. Mary's Episcopal Church in Pocomoke City, Maryland for nearly ten years. While there he led the congregation through a 1.67 million dollar renovation project that led to the establishment of a full-time childcare facility that serves over sixty children. While at St. Mary's Greg completed four units of Clinical Pastoral Education at Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury, Maryland.
Prior to coming to the Diocese of Easton, Greg served over five years in two resource-sized congregations in the Diocese of West Texas and the Diocese of Eastern Tennessee where he focused on family ministry and evangelism. He graduated from the Anglican seminary, Wycliffe College, a member of the Toronto School of Theology in Toronto, Ontario, first in class.
Greg's ministry ensures the daily worship and pastoral needs of the people of Trinity Cathedral are met, and he ensures its smooth functioning. He also leads the Diocese of Easton Theology Forum.
